above the clouds - a heartwarming discovery
was vacationing at a friend's place last week when he put on this movie called "above the clouds". his taste in movies is phenomenal. no wonder, it turned out to be one of those gems that stays with you.
the story follows a friendship between an aged homeless man and a girl who just turned eighteen. he accompanies her on a road trip she makes, serving as a responsible adult helping her learn to drive, to meet her biological father [about whom she just came to know]. while a tad contrived, it becomes something genuinely beautiful.
what made it so heart warming was the authentic father-daughter dynamic that develops between them. two people from completely different worlds helping each other with their respective situations in life. you watch as they both change through this unexpected connection.
they both bring something valuable to the relationship. he supports her in her ordeals of discovering her 'true' father, while she helps him move on from some unfortunate event in his past. it's mutual, respectful, and deeply human.
